  • A chocolate biscuit

    £300.00

    by Louise Wright

Wet and needle felted wool fibres with free machine embroidered African hand batik fabric. This is a self portrait aged about 4 with my mother. It is based on a small black and white photograph, taken in the UK, where I am looking seriously at the camera and holding a biscuit. Our warm clothes and the hat that my mother is wearing, are contrasted with the African hand batik fabric sewn into the background … a memory of my mother’s upbringing in sunnier South Africa.

  • A handbag

    £250.00

    by Louise Wright

Wet and needle felted wool fibres. This is a self portrait from the 1960s, aged about 4. It is inspired by a small black and white photograph taken by my father in the garden of the British Embassy in South Africa. I had stepped away from my mother and therefore look quite alone, holding my handbag over my arm, just like the stylish privileged white women I see around me. I am an only child and have always loved handbags and accessories, so this feels very much ‘me’.

  • By The Lake

    £595.00

Collage of Hampstead Heath lake on enlarged digital photograph .

I spend a lot of time people watching and, after an afternoon on Hampstead Heath, I started this collage.

Inspired by a bit of daydreaming and a watching people enjoying the lake and the environment around it.

The view didnt capture the London skyline so I collaged it in and Voilà.

A black wood frame complements this piece.

  • Early Parkour

    £195.00

Collage ( framed) of the rooftops of New York.

The original high angle shot of New York (found in an old guide) shows a great view of the rooftops and I love the atmosphere that’s created.

Here, Vivienne Leigh, leaps from roof top to roof top, demonstrating that parkour didn’t start in Paris after all.

A black wood frame complements this piece.

  • George in Glasses

    £250.00

    by Louise Wright

Wet felted wool, needle felting with linen and organza fabrics. In this portrait, I addressed the challenges of creating an image of a man with thinning hair, a beard and spectacles. Through the use of rich colours, a direct gaze and textured organza scraps needle felted onto a linen shirt, I created a portrait which is strong and direct, yet also sympathetic.

  • Green Earring

    £250.00

    by Louise Wright

Wet felted wool, needle felting and sari silks.  This portrait is inspired by the musician and songwriter Brittany Howard, lead singer of the rock band Alabama Shakes. A follower of the music of Alabama Shakes, I admire Brittany both for her musicianship and her liberated and authentic personal style …. A woman who rocks wearing spectacles with a powerful presence.

  • Into the Chicane

    £65.00

Collage print – black and white  (unframed).

This came after a conversation with my brother about how many modern cars lack character.

The car in the collage represents the golden age of motoring, and the rose, the romance of it all.

  • Just a Perfect day

    £195.00

    Collage (framed).

Inspired by the Raymond Chandler novel, The Lady in the Lake, which portrayed Los Angeles in all its wonderful seedy glamour.

Many characters are paranoid and lonely, often finding solace in the bottom of a bottle.

A black aluminium frame complements this piece.

  • Londons Calling

    £95.00

    Limited edition collage print (unframed).

There’s a rich history of graffiti, at least going back to the Roman period, so here is an imagined view of Thames by Canaletto.

The chaos of modern living is contrasted with the serene beauty of an old master. The title links to The Clash and their 1979 track, with the same title, exploring an apocalyptic future.

    Edition 10/35.
