  • 414 Bus

    £495.00

    By Kate Domash

Oil and shellac on mountboard (framed). This is the view of the 414 bus heading towards Fulham through Knightsbridge. The setting sun reflecting on the buildings caught my eye. This piece is floated in a black frame.

  • A chocolate biscuit

    £300.00

    by Louise Wright

Wet and needle felted wool fibres with free machine embroidered African hand batik fabric. This is a self portrait aged about 4 with my mother. It is based on a small black and white photograph, taken in the UK, where I am looking seriously at the camera and holding a biscuit. Our warm clothes and the hat that my mother is wearing, are contrasted with the African hand batik fabric sewn into the background … a memory of my mother’s upbringing in sunnier South Africa.

    £2,000.00

Oil on  Canvas (framed). I pass this track every day when I walk my dog in Dorset and have drawn and painted it from many different angles.  Here I have really gone to town with the perspective and mark making. The entire painting was done with a  large decorators brush.

  • A Walk on the Beach

    £420.00

Acrylic on mountboard (framed).  This painting was inspired by a wild and rainy walk on Ynslas Beach near my parents house on the Welsh coast. It is a long 5 mile stretch of sand on the Irish sea and I’ve witnessed some spectacular weather there.

  • Absent

    £295.00

    By Moira Ross

Circular Maltese limestone on a wood base. I do like abstracts, a lot of mine are round. There is something about a circle. It’s embracing, inclusive but if there’s a hole? Is something missing or does it allow for a view to somewhere else? For me this shiny sculpture offers hope. What else is out there?

  • Apples on glass

    £380.00

    By Moira Ross

3 Maltese limestone apples on glass base . These are all made from the same size of stone blocks but they are not exactly the same.  It just happens that way.  When I set them out on the glass, I try to balance them, the one I think is larger going in the middle. Other people might have a different way to arrange them.  That makes me happy.

    £395.00

Watercolour and acrylic on Arches paper (unframed). Further inspired by the coastal path along the southeastern shore of Lough Neagh in the North of Ireland. These paintings on Arches watercolour paper are quite graphic in their approach, drawing inspiration from the flora and fauna and refining those shapes in a form of drawing which in many ways is how I view much of my work on paper. The coastal sand, sea and land is inferred by minimum brushstrokes and al the time colour is key to telling the story of place and time

Semi abstract, with a hint at landscape or seascape, allowing the viewer to travel across the paper, absorbing texture, brushwork and colour. Cultra sits along the south eastern shore of Lough Neagh along the NorthDown coastal path, a beautiful part of the North of Ireland with hidden coves, heathery gorse and so many beautiful spots to sit and paint.

Through the use of rich colours, a direct gaze and textured organza scraps needle felted onto a linen shirt, I created a portrait which is strong and direct, yet also sympathetic.

I adore painting on large scale watercolour paper, both hot pressed and cold pressed, depending on the landscape, textures or paint pools I am trying to create. This piece was painted on cold pressed paper which has a slightly rougher grain which allows the pant to sit in its hollows and find its own form. Another Irish landscape inspired work, this time in Co. Antrim near Lough Neagh.

This piece was painted on hot pressed which is much smoother and allows for ‘cleaner’ mark-making where the paint dries much more quickly and you need to work fast across the plain of the paper. Another Irish landscape inspired work, this time in Co. Antrim near Lough Neagh.

Acrylic and silver leaf on linen (unframed) Life alongside a small port is always busy. In The Last Catch series the tiny fishing boat rests against the jetty as the nets unload. tiny fish wriggle free from the tangle of rope and glisten against the deep blues of the water. Painted with both brush and palette knife, I like to apply a lot of paint, often removing it all to reveal the underpainting and raw linen below. These paintings are laboured and take quite some time building up rich colour and volumes of paint to achieve the intensity I am seeking. Tumbling sky and deep horizons add enormous depth to limited space and each canvas tells a busy yet tranquil story of a days work.

      • Museum VI

        £3,400.00

Oil, graphite and mixed media on canvas. This painting in my ‘Museum’ series was inspired by encounters in museums whilst studying and making sketches of old carved stone heads suspended in glass cabinets. The textures; incised lines, the tooled marks and the intriguing traces of patterns and pigment just visible on their surfaces I find very seductive.

My intention was to capture the experience of these visits; the ebb and flow of people; sounds of whispers and snippets of conversation drifting over; brief encounters with shadows and reflections appearing over the glazed exhibits. My process involved layers upon layers of paint and other materials then sanding back, scraping away to imbue the surface with a rich texture. I utilise this approach in all of the media I work with; it’s the overlap of accident and intention that I like so much, because it impregnates the surface, giving it a sense of something that has been carved out, weathered or cracked by time.

Ideas develop from conversations, observing body language and how people interact and influence each other. I like to suggest narratives or a drama just beginning to unfold.

Gouache on  recycled paper (framed) . One evening as the light was fading I was walking past a building site when a large security light illuminated an empty crate standing on a patch of open ground. It felt really theatrical as if some event was about to take place, but the light was extinguished and the moment passed. A little further on, on the other side of the road, there was a young deer eating leaves from a sapling. The dogs and I watched until it sensed us and leap away its white rump disappearing into the undergrowth. This was such a surreal experience, I had to record it. Carborundum, collagraph ,collage ,monotype (framed) Mixed media monoprint and collage. This is comprised of printed strips of masking tape taken from several hand inked carborundum plates then arranged and assembled to form a collage. My current work comprising of paintings and printmaking focusses on the personalities of the individual caught up in the confusion and speed of the modern world. My aim here was to create some chaos by deconstructing the faces and then re-assembling them.

It was  scrolling through ‘Stories’ in social media that inspired this work ‘Squeezebox’. In these ‘stories’ images flash before us like a never ending ’Show and tell.’ These images are incomplete, mere fractions of a ‘story’ which hustle to catch our attention and approval within in a tight time frame and space. He is pictured wearing his angling hat and tie combo which apparently ensured success. He used to work for a small coach builder and always appreciated the design of the Airstream. This one I saw locally hidden behind a hedge. A black wood frame complements this piece.

                £895.00

Acrylic and gold leaf on linen (unframed) County Donegal is a wild and exceptionally beautiful part of Ireland, bordering North andSouth of the island. Much of my painting is preoccupied with the Wild Atlantic Way where the mighty North Atlantic seas crash against the coastline and peatland and water seamlessly blend in the most honest of landscapes. This painting captures both and is often the case with my work, deep horizons knit it all together with textures of precious gold leaf capturing the unique light patterns.

                  by Keith Busby

Gouache on recycled paper (framed). Walking the dogs on a beach on a lovely sunny morning with a clear blue sky Cornwall was twinned with California and this influenced my palette for this painting. The beach hut is an old life guard observation post perched on the rocks that frame the beach. I  noticed a piece of debris buried in the sand that looked like the remains of a second beach hut that had been washed away. A black wood frame complements this piece.

Wet felted wool and sari silks. This portrait is inspired by the writer Toni Morrison. Photographs of her usually show her with carefully coiffed hair. I imagined and portrayed her in a more relaxed and wilder style ….. questioning why such powerful women should always appear perfectly groomed.

                  £150.00

Oil on canvas (framed) . This is one of many small paintings of contemplative heads I created during Lockdown.  I was unable to travel to my studio so I decided to build on my miniature paintings from my ‘lockdown studio’ aka – the kitchen table. Working on a miniature scale has been a great way to experiment with new approaches and materials. I have painted many of these and they have become part of my ‘Moments of being’ series – they’re visual expressions of moments; emotions and musings on daily life. A black wood frame complements this piece.
