Sophie Bartlett was born and grew up on a farm in Hawkley, Hampshire. She went to Art College at West Surrey and graduated with a BA (Hons) from Hull College of Art in 1984.

Her work is loosely figurative and based on things she sees that excite her. She is primarily interested in light, colour and form. Her work can be described as ‘loosely impressionistic’, encompassing landscape, still life and figurative subjects. She works in a variety of media, sometimes adding collage, adding contrast and texture.
