Kate’s sculpture is based on a purity and simplicity of form and finish, creating sensual objects that beg to be touched. These very modern pieces are crafted using traditional skills and tools, and the finished results reflect Kate’s passion and creative freedom.
Her instinctive appreciation of shape and form, coupled with a desire to enhance and celebrate the inherent qualities of the raw material, result in effortless, tactile and desirable objects. Kate works as a creative design consultant on large scale installations alongside her sculpting. The delivery of these exciting projects keeps her in contact with a wide range of skilled fabricators, which informs and inspires her to push the boundaries of materials in her smaller scale pieces.
“In contrast to my larger scale installation projects, my sculpture is a very personal and more intuitive expression of my vision and creativity on a smaller and more intimate scale. However, I find that I’m looking for many parallel qualities in both arenas, seeking dynamic, refined forms with exacting finishes while still embracing the unforeseen or unknown, so it seems only natural that one will influence the other.”
