  • Abstract Jura Sky

    £420.00

Oil and shellac on mountboard (framed).

I visit the island of Jura on the west coast of Scotland every year. It is a bleak, barren island inhabited by 196 people and a constant source of inspiration for me. The skies there are never mundane – they are big, dramatic and awe inspiring. I hope I have captured this in my painting.

  • After the rain

    £595.00

    Oil on canvas (framed).

In May 2018 I travelled to Le Lot to paint with a group of artists. We were there for a week and hoping for warm, dry weather. What we got was a lot of rain which made painting “en plein air” challenging. By the end of the week the rain had stopped and in return there was a wonderful , fresh, green landscape which I have captured here.

  • Cranborne Chase

    £595.00

    Oil on gesso board (framed).

I spend half of my time in North Dorset. Our village is at the top of Cranborne Chase and we have sweeping views down to the South coast and spectacular big skies. Come rain or shine, it is beautiful.

  • Eigg and Rum

    £550.00

    Oil on board (framed).

I have been visiting the west coast of Scotland since I was a child. More recently I have been making regular painting trips to Arisaig, in Arygll and Bute to paint the landscape. The inner Hebridean islands of Eigg and Rum when seen from the mainland create a wonderful (and to me mesmerising) shape created by the negative space between the two islands. I have painted it many times!

  • Jura Skies

    £420.00

Oil and shellac on watercolour paper (framed).

The Isle of Jura has one road that runs the length of the island. It is a single track with occasional passing places and is bordered with telephone lines. I am always fascinated with the way these poles and wires disrupt the landscape and sky. This painting was inspired by a very rainy windy walk along this road, counting the poles until we got home.

  • Light on the sound of Jura

    £420.00

Oil and shellac on mountboard (framed).

The body of water between the island of Jura and the mainland is called the Sound of Jura. It is a wide stretch of water that captures beams of light that shine through occasional chinks in the clouds.

  • Nude

    £750.00

    Charcoal on paper (framed).

I love the immediacy of life drawing and I am often drawn to “happy accidents”. This was drawn in 10 minutes with Carla modelling for us. The board I used to rest my paper on had deep gouges across it, presumably made with a blade by the previous user. I like the accidental marks these gouges made on the drawing.

  • Rise up

    £550.00

    Pastel on mountboard (framed).

I am fascinated with drawing the human figure as a landscape. Here I have imagined it as an island. The drawing was made from life.

  • Thames Abstract Jetty (Blue)

    £950.00

Charcoal, acrylic and pastel on paper (framed).

Not far from where I live in London is a small public park called Cremorne Gardens. On one side it is bordered by the river Thames where on the foreshore is a jetty. This painting was inspired by a morning of sketching when the tide was low and the jettys’ legs were exposed, disrupting the landscape in an interesting way.

  • Waiting at Cairidh Mhor

    £420.00

Oil and shellac on mountboard (framed).

Cairidh Mhor is a fresh water loch on the Isle of Jura on the west coast of Scotland. This painting was made from a sketch I did whilst waiting for someone to catch some evasive brown trout!
