Porcelain, slip, glaze sculpture A mélange of ideas came together into this playful piece. This sculpture was hand built in stoneware clay in to which I’ve pressed and carved fabric textures and pattern. I wanted to create something theatrical My fan celebrates theatrical display, gesture and social interaction   The structure is based on a hand held ornate fan. The original purpose of hand fans was to create a breeze, used for protection against rain, for salutations, signals, to punctuate sentences, – it was also used to conveying secret messages and to hide behind.
